Insomnia Care in Calgary SW

When sleep won’t come – there’s a program for that.

Lying awake at 1 a.m. Wide awake at 3. Dreading bedtime because you already know how it goes. Chronic insomnia is exhausting – and it’s treatable. Westside’s insomnia program pairs a physician sleep assessment with CBT-I (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia), the structured, drug-free approach recommended as a first-line treatment in clinical sleep guidelines.

This is for you if

  • You take an hour (or three) to fall asleep
  • You wake in the night and your mind switches on
  • You sleep, but wake unrefreshed anyway
  • Sleeping pills help less than they used to – or you’d rather not rely on them
  • You’ve tried every tip on the internet and you’re still tired

What is CBT-I?

CBT-I is not “sleep hygiene tips.” It’s a structured, short-term program that retrains the systems that control your sleep – your body clock, your sleep drive, and the racing-mind habits that keep you wired at night. It gives you a personal, week-by-week plan – and skills that keep working long after the program ends.

Why start with a physician?

Insomnia sometimes travels with other sleep problems – snoring, sleep apnea, pain, low mood. Your journey begins with an insured sleep assessment with our family physician, so the plan treats the right problem. If testing is needed, it happens at home, in your own bed. If CBT-I is the fit, you start with clarity. And if it’s both – we treat both, under one roof.

Coverage box

The physician sleep assessment is covered by Alberta Health – bring your health card. CBT-I sessions with a registered psychologist are a private-pay psychology service, commonly reimbursed by extended health benefits that cover registered psychologists. Fees and session plans are always provided clearly before you begin.

Good questions, honest answers

The physician assessment is insured by Alberta Health. Psychology sessions are private-pay; many extended health plans reimburse services from a registered psychologist – check your plan’s psychology coverage.

CBT-I is deliberately short-term – typically a small number of structured sessions with practice between them. Your exact plan is set at your first session.

Never change prescribed medication on your own. Your care is coordinated with our physician, and any medication changes are made safely, together.

No. Relaxation may be one tool, but CBT-I works by systematically rebuilding your sleep pattern – it’s the difference between advice and treatment.

That’s exactly why we start with the physician assessment. Snoring, apnea, and insomnia can overlap; the assessment sorts out your path.
