Solea Sleep
A single short laser treatment that firms the soft palate. Needle-free, no downtime; snoring may reduce over the following weeks.
Solea laserSnoring is more than a nuisance for your partner; it is often a sign of a narrowed airway that keeps you from the deep, restorative sleep your body needs. At Westside, we look at the cause first – a physician sleep assessment with Dr. Sabah Jarullah rules out sleep apnea – and then choose from three options under one roof: Solea Sleep laser treatment of the soft palate, EMFACE® muscle training for the palate and floor of the mouth, and a custom oral appliance.
Snoring care at Westside starts on the medical side with a physician assessment with Dr. Sabah Jarullah to rule out sleep apnea (insured under the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan). Solea Sleep laser treatment and oral appliances are then provided by Dr. Zubaida Hussain, dentist; EMFACE® sessions are directed by Dr. Sabah. No referral needed.
Most snoring comes from a soft palate that has become loose and flutters as you breathe in. Solea Sleep is a short laser treatment – usually 5 to 15 minutes in the chair – in which Dr. Zubaida Hussain gently firms the tissue of the soft palate with the Solea® laser. A topical numbing spray is all that is needed: no incisions, no stitches and no injections.
You go straight back to your day with, at most, a mild sore-throat feeling for a day or two. Snoring may lessen over the following weeks as the palate firms, and some people choose a repeat treatment later on. Results vary from person to person.

EMFACE® combines focused electrical muscle stimulation (HIFES) with radiofrequency. With the submentum applicator placed under the chin, each session works the muscles that tension the soft palate and support the floor of the mouth – the same muscles myofunctional therapy trains with daily exercises, without the exercises. It feels like a strong, rhythmic tapping; you are awake and there is no downtime.
A course is usually four sessions of about 20 minutes, one a week. It is a wellness protocol for screened snorers – not a treatment for sleep apnea – so Dr. Sabah Jarullah assesses everyone first and anyone with moderate or severe apnea is guided to the right treatment instead. Direct research on EMFACE® for snoring is still limited; the approach draws on the evidence for airway-muscle training and neuromuscular stimulation, and results vary.

After your assessment – and a one-night home sleep test if one is indicated – Dr. Sabah and Dr. Zubaida Hussain recommend the option, or combination, that fits the cause of your snoring.

Solea laser
Four 20-minute sessions of muscle stimulation under the chin to train the palate and floor-of-mouth muscles. Physician-directed wellness protocol.
EMFACE®
A slim, custom-fitted device worn at night that holds the lower jaw slightly forward to keep the airway open – made by Dr. Zubaida Hussain from a digital scan. Also a treatment option when a sleep test shows mild to moderate apnea.
Sleep & airway careIf your home sleep test shows sleep apnea, treatment is planned with Dr. Sabah: CPAP, an oral appliance, or referral where your case calls for it.
We view your oral health as a gateway to your overall well-being. Solea Sleep is one option within our approach to airway care. By providing a non-invasive way to firm the soft palate, we can help you breathe easier and sleep more soundly.
We assess children from age 2. Snoring, mouth breathing, restless sleep, bedwetting and daytime behaviour changes can all point to sleep-disordered breathing, and the earlier it is found the simpler it is to help. After a physician assessment with Dr. Sabah Jarullah and a dental airway exam with Dr. Zubaida Hussain, options for children include laser frenectomy for tongue- or lip-tie, myofunctional therapy, growth-guiding myofunctional appliances such as Myobrace® and Myosa® (different from the adult oral appliance), palatal expansion and other adjunctive therapies – with a home sleep test where appropriate.
