Ingrown Toenail in Calgary SW
Ingrown Toenail
A toenail edge growing into the skin – red, swollen, tender, sometimes infected – that makes shoes and walking painful. Ingrown toenails rarely resolve on their own once the skin is inflamed, and picking at them makes it worse.
Westside treats ingrown toenails in clinic, by a physician, with local numbing where needed.
This care is provided on the medical side of Westside under Dr. Sabah Jarullah, family physician. Every patient begins with a medical assessment; insured visits are covered under the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan. No referral needed.
Signs you may notice
- Pain along the edge of the toenail, worse with pressure
- Redness, swelling or warmth around the nail
- Discharge or an unpleasant smell (signs of infection)
- Overgrowth of skin at the nail edge
- Recurring problems on the same toe
How it is assessed and treated at Westside
Dr. Sabah Jarullah examines the toe and treats it according to the stage – trimming and lifting the nail edge, treating infection, or, for recurring cases, a minor procedure to remove the offending nail edge under local anaesthetic. You leave with clear aftercare. Medically necessary care is insured under the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan.
