This care is provided on the medical side of Westside under Dr. Sabah Jarullah, family physician. Every patient begins with a medical assessment; insured visits are covered under the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan. No referral needed.
What Is EMSELLA®?
EMSELLA® is a clinical-grade chair developed by BTL — the same company behind EMFACE®, EXION™, EMVITAL®, and EXOMIND™ — that delivers focused electromagnetic energy directly to the pelvic floor.
In a single 28-minute session, EMSELLA® triggers thousands of supramaximal pelvic floor muscle contractions — far more than anyone can achieve voluntarily through Kegel exercises. Over a course of treatments, this re-trains your pelvic floor: stronger tone, better neuromuscular control, and improved support for the bladder, urethra, and pelvic organs.
High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM®) Technology – HIFEM® uses the same physical principle as MRI: focused electromagnetic fields that pass through skin and clothing to reach deep muscle tissue. Unlike voluntary contraction, HIFEM® bypasses the limitations of conscious muscle control and stimulates the entire pelvic floor – including the deep fibres most people cannot consciously engage.
Supramaximal Contractions – In a single 28-minute EMSELLA® session, the pelvic floor undergoes thousands of supramaximal contractions. These contractions are deeper, faster, and more complete than any voluntary exercise can produce – building strength, endurance, and neuromuscular control over a course of treatments.

Step 1 – Consultation You meet with our pelvic health team. We review your symptoms, your medical history, and your goals — in plain language, with no pressure. If EMSELLA® is appropriate, we build a treatment plan together.
Step 2 – Treatment You arrive in comfortable clothing — and stay fully clothed. You sit on the EMSELLA® chair, settle on a comfortable intensity with your provider, and read, scroll, or simply rest while the chair delivers thousands of contractions over 28 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does EMSELLA® hurt?
No. Most patients describe the sensation as tingling or tapping. The contractions are strong but not painful, and there is no soreness afterward in most cases.
Do I need to undress?
No. You remain fully clothed throughout the session.
How is EMSELLA® different from Kegel exercises?
Voluntary Kegels engage only a fraction of your pelvic floor muscle fibres. A single EMSELLA® session triggers thousands of supramaximal contractions — including the deep fibres that voluntary contractions often miss.
How many sessions will I need?
Most patients complete 6 sessions over 3 weeks. Maintenance sessions every few months are often recommended afterward.
When will I see results?
Many patients report improvement within the first 2–3 sessions. Full benefits typically develop in the weeks following the final session.
Can men have EMSELLA®?
Yes. EMSELLA® is Health Canada licensed for the treatment of urinary incontinence in men – including post-prostatectomy concerns – as well as for the enhancement of sexual function.
Is EMSELLA® covered by insurance or Alberta Health Care?
EMSELLA® treatment itself is not currently covered by Alberta Health Care. Some extended health benefit plans may offer partial coverage when treatment is medically supervised – we can provide documentation to support your claim. The medical consultation portion may be covered under your provincial or private insurance. Our team will help you understand your options before you begin.
