What Is Aura 3D?
Aura 3D is a precision facial imaging platform developed by Hexagon — a global leader in measurement and reality technology — and assembled entirely in Switzerland. It uses multiple coordinated cameras and lighting units to capture every feature of your skin, including many features your eye cannot see, in a single scan. The result is a photo-realistic 3D digital twin of your face and neck that you and your provider can rotate, analyze, and compare side-by-side with future scans.
Multi-Camera 3D Capture — Aura uses 13 high-resolution cameras working in concert with calibrated lighting to capture your face and neck from every angle in 0.2 seconds. This produces sub-millimetre geometric accuracy (0.1 mm) — which means comparisons over time are precise to a tenth of a millimetre, not subjective.
Multi-Spectral Skin Analysis — Specialized lighting and filters allow Aura to see beneath the surface of your skin. It detects melanin distribution (brown spots, pigmentation, sun damage), hemoglobin patterns (vascularity, redness, inflammation), and surface texture (pores, wrinkles, fine lines) — without needing Wood’s lamp or UV exposure.

Is the Aura scan safe?
Yes. Aura uses standard photographic lighting only – no radiation, no UV, no skin contact. It’s safe for all skin types, all ages, and for use during pregnancy.
Do I need to remove makeup before my scan?
For the most accurate skin analysis, light or no makeup is preferred. Our team will let you know what to expect when you book.
How is this different from regular before-and-after photos?
Standard 2D photos depend on the angle, lighting, and exact pose – comparisons are subjective. Aura captures your face in true 3D with sub-millimetre accuracy, so your comparisons are objective and measurable.
Is Aura covered by insurance?
Aura is part of our aesthetic consultation process and is not currently covered by Alberta Health Care or private insurance. Pricing is shared in advance – transparent, no surprises.
Can I do a scan without committing to treatment?
Yes. Many patients book a standalone Aura scan to understand their skin before deciding on any next step.
