Mental Health & Wellness – TMS Therapy in Calgary SW

Drug-free. Non-invasive. Physician-directed.

Westside's mental health and wellness program is built around EXOMIND™, a transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) technology by BTL, and led by Dr. Sabah Jarullah, our on-site family physician. Every patient begins with his assessment; from there you follow one of two pathways – clinical TMS treatment or the wellness pathway – in a calm, unhurried environment at our West Springs clinic. You are awake throughout, it feels like light tapping on the scalp, and a session takes about twenty minutes.

This program is provided on the medical side of Westside under Dr. Sabah Jarullah, family physician – every patient begins with his assessment.

Two pathways, one physician

EXOMIND™ TMS treatment session at Westside

Clinical TMS treatment

For a formal diagnosis or clinically significant symptoms: major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety symptoms and binge eating within EXOMIND™'s Health Canada-licensed indications, plus additional applications under active research such as PTSD-related symptoms, ADHD and chronic pain with low mood. Validated measures at baseline, mid-course and follow-up; coordination with your mental health team.

An EXOMIND™ wellness session at Westside

Wellness pathway

For people without a diagnosis who feel foggy, run-down, stressed or short on sleep and want a structured, drug-free approach to mood, focus, stress resilience, recovery and rest – with the same physician screening first.

How TMS works

Short, focused magnetic pulses are delivered to the prefrontal region of the brain that regulates mood, behaviour and cognition. Repeated over a course, the pulses encourage neuroplasticity – strengthening the connections that support a steadier, more resilient mind. You are awake and seated, most people describe a light tapping sensation, sessions take about 20 minutes, and you can return to your day afterwards.

Mind and body are treated together here: chronic jaw pain, poor sleep and stress feed one another, and Dr. Sabah can involve our pain management, sleep and dental teams when that helps.

Questions we hear most

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book a mental health and wellness consultation directly. Dr. Sabah Jarullah, our on-site family physician, assesses every patient; family physicians and psychiatrists can also refer through our referral form.

Who does the assessment and the treatment?

Dr. Sabah reviews your health history, current treatments and medications, screens for contraindications and safety, uses validated measures at baseline, and prescribes and directs the course. Trained treatment assistants deliver sessions under his protocol.

What is the difference between the clinical and wellness pathways?

The clinical pathway is TMS treatment for a formal diagnosis or clinically significant symptoms – depression, OCD, anxiety symptoms, binge eating – with validated outcome measures and coordination with your mental health team. The wellness pathway is for people without a diagnosis who want to work on mood, focus, stress resilience, recovery and rest.

Is this a replacement for therapy or medication?

No. TMS works alongside your existing care. Your medications and therapy continue, and for clinical-pathway patients we coordinate with your psychiatrist, psychologist or family doctor before starting and send progress updates.

Is EXOMIND™ safe, and who should not have it?

EXOMIND™ is a Health Canada-licensed device; nothing is prescribed and nothing enters the body. Side effects are usually mild scalp discomfort or a short-lived headache. It is not used for people with implanted electrical devices such as pacemakers or cochlear implants, certain metal implants in the head or neck, or a history of seizures – a full screening at your consultation confirms suitability.

Is it covered?

Clinical-pathway courses are often eligible for Health Spending Account submission with Dr. Sabah's MD designation, and some extended health plans cover TMS for treatment-resistant depression – check with your insurer. Wellness-pathway sessions are private-pay. Fees are explained before you book, and financing through Beautifi at 0% interest is available.

What if I am in crisis right now?

EXOMIND™ is never started during an acute crisis. If you have thoughts of harming yourself, call 911 or the Alberta Mental Health Help Line at 1-877-303-2642; we will re-evaluate treatment once you are safe.
